The last several years have brought about Data Driven Decisions, and other initiatives that all focus around data. While these initiatives have good intentions, I think that there is often too much focus on data. Not everything (can, or should) be measured. It seems that if it can’t be measured, it isn’t worth even looking at.
The following article provides an interesting point about relying too heavily on data when making decisions.
Keeping all of that in mind, I have to write departmental goals for the year – and they all need to be measurable. Obviously we keep track of helpdesk tickets, network utilization, ANGEL Learning utilization, as well as other items. The key is trying to tie our data points to student achievement.
